Speaking with us on the morning of February 8, Nguyen Anh Tuan, Head of the Nam Tu Liem Health Department, said that after discovering the new case, authorities quickly locked down the Garden Hill apartment building at 99 Tran Binh (My Dinh, Nam Tu Liem). They also disinfected the area and tested about 1,200 residents living there for Covid-19.
“Early on February 8, units coordinated to roll out pandemic prevention plans, disinfect the entire apartment complex, and collect samples for testing. However, some residents had already traveled back to their hometowns for Tet before this,” Tuan explained.
Explaining why patient N.T.K.A was identified as an F1 contact but was not quarantined centrally after meeting patient 1722 at the Garden Hill building gate on January 26, Mr. Tuan said the patient gave inconsistent and dishonest information.
“After contact with patient 1722, this person did not report truthfully to health authorities. Even patient 1722 did not fully disclose contact with this woman, leading to missed F1 cases,” Tuan added.
Patient N.T.K.A had contact with patient 1722 (the wife of patient 1694, a 41-year-old soldier living at 479 Phuc Dien, Xuan Phuong ward, Nam Tu Liem district, working at Z153 factory in Dong Anh town) on January 26 at the building gate. On February 5, the patient showed symptoms of fever, cough, and sore throat. On the afternoon of February 6, the patient called Hanoi CDC’s emergency number 115 for advice, was reported to Nam Tu Liem authorities, tested, and received a positive result on February 7.
It has been 12 days since the patient’s contact with the F0 case. According to the infection cycle, the patient could have been contagious during the past 10 days.
On the morning of February 8, police set up barriers and fences to lock down the apartment complex. All residents were ordered not to enter or leave the area.
