Recently, gamers and the online community have been buzzing about claims that the PS5 was successfully hacked to mine cryptocurrency. However, after verification, it’s clear this is just a prank and the PS5’s security remains rock solid.

If you look closely at the photo claiming to show a hacked PS5 mining crypto, you’ll notice a QR code in the top left corner. Scanning it reveals a message in Chinese that says “no such software exists.”
According to analysis from the well-known site Hardware Times, using PS5 hardware to mine crypto at 98 MH/s is totally unrealistic. The PS5’s AMD Radeon GPU with RDNA 2 architecture (ray tracing, up to 2.23 GHz, 10.3 teraflops) could only manage about 60 MH/s even if hacked. Plus, the PS5 GPU lacks AMD Infinity Cache, making efficient Ethereum mining nearly impossible right now.

So, it’s safe to say this was just a joke from the Chinese online community. At the moment, the PS5 cannot be hacked for crypto mining.
