On the morning of March 11, Mr. Lê Quang Tự Do, Deputy Director of the Department of Broadcasting, Television and Electronic Information (Ministry of Information and Communications), told the press that the agency has requested TikTok and YouTube to remove content violating rules related to superstition posted on channels managed by Thơ Nguyễn.
Mr. Do said TikTok has removed the content and temporarily suspended her channel. TikTok representatives also noted that because Thơ Nguyễn has a huge YouTube following, her TikTok page quickly attracted a large number of followers within just three days of launching.
Regarding YouTube, the Department has also sent requests to block videos with inappropriate content.
According to Mr. Do, just yesterday the Department worked with the Internal Political Security Division (Ministry of Public Security) to find Thơ Nguyễn’s address and phone number to invite her for a meeting due to signs of superstition promotion on her channels, but she has not responded yet.
On how they plan to handle the situation, the Deputy Director said if Thơ Nguyễn refuses to cooperate or ignores contact attempts, further measures will be taken.
Specifically, Mr. Do confirmed the Department will ask Google to block her channel and temporarily suspend her account. Google also supports blocking channels that promote superstition.
He added that the Ministry of Information and Communications, along with the Ministry of Public Security, has dealt with nearly 1,000 cases of fake news. So even though YouTubers operate individually without registration, state authorities can still monitor and take action if violations occur.
For users, the Department’s leadership advises parents to carefully filter information to keep their children away from inappropriate content.
