Recently, Cable.co.uk, a UK-based consulting and research firm specializing in cable TV, internet, and telecom services, released a report on internet pricing across 211 countries and territories worldwide.
Cable.co.uk gathered data from 3,288 fixed broadband providers across 211 countries and territories between October and December 2020. On average, global users pay about 78.14 USD per month for internet service.
Ukraine tops the list with the cheapest average internet price worldwide, costing just 6.41 USD per month. Syria follows closely with an average monthly price of 6.49 USD.
Notably, Vietnam ranks 6th in Asia, 12th worldwide, and is the cheapest in Southeast Asia for internet service costs. On average, Vietnamese users pay just 11.27 USD (about 260,000 VND) per month for internet access.
Additionally, Vietnam is among the countries with the smallest year-to-year price fluctuations, with the average internet cost rising only about 0.04 USD (around 900 VND) from 2019 to 2020.
In contrast, many African countries face high mobile internet prices due to poor telecom infrastructure, limited competition among providers, and low average incomes.
The report highlights that four out of the five countries with the highest average internet prices are in Africa. For example, users in Eritrea pay an average of 2,666.24 USD per month. Mauritania ranks second with 712.46 USD monthly.
Following are Comoros (414.01 USD/month), Burundi (370 USD/month), and Macau (307.74 USD/month). Yemen experienced the largest price fluctuation globally, dropping from an average of 2,466.67 USD per month in 2019 to just 39.34 USD in 2020, a decrease of 2,427.32 USD.
