Samsung just announced a major breakthrough in DDR5 SDRAM design with a 512GB DDR5 DIMM module. This isn’t just the largest RAM stick in the world, it also leads in speed, reaching up to 7200 Mbps.
Samsung achieved this by using TSV (Through Silicon Via) technology, which stacks 8 memory chips on top of each other. The RAM also uses High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) materials, commonly found in logic transistors, to reduce current leakage.

This new RAM module also saves 13% more power, which is a huge benefit for data centers. It’s designed for high-bandwidth tasks in fields like medical research, finance, and automotive industries.
For gamers, 512GB RAM isn’t really necessary. Most desktop CPUs only support up to 64GB or 128GB. DDR5 offers double the bandwidth of DDR4 and better power efficiency, but currently no mainstream platforms support it yet.
Intel’s upcoming Alder Lake platform is expected to be the first mainstream system to support DDR5, launching in early 2022. AMD’s Zen 4 architecture is also rumored to support DDR5, with a release planned for summer 2022.
