His condition keeps him leaning backward, with limbs shrunken, and he has had to stay in a kneeling position his whole life. He’s been kneeling since he was 7 years old. As a child, his mother taught him to read and write at home. Despite severe physical deformities, he has no issues with breathing, vision, or eating. Refusing to give up, Oliveira began sharing his motivational story through speeches starting in the early 2000s. He even learned to write by holding a pen in his mouth and operate devices like phones and tablets with his lips. Today, he works as an accountant and consultant, all skills he taught himself, as he openly admits.
In interviews, Oliveira says his life is quite normal, without much disruption or shame about his condition. However, during the ongoing pandemic, he has to be twice as careful as others. He even canceled all his speaking events and chose to self-isolate for the past year and a half. “I am a normal person, I don’t see life upside down,” is how Oliveira always begins his speeches.
