The “funnel” strategy using Master Yi and Taric is one of the most frustrating playstyles in League of Legends. Even though Riot Games has tried to nerf it, the combo still exists and helps many players climb ranks super quickly. This tactic remains powerful and annoying even at high ranks, like Diamond II and above.
Tired of the Master Yi – Taric strategy, the LoL community is calling for changes to weaken this playstyle. Specifically, players want Riot to remove the interaction between Master Yi’s Alpha Strike and Taric’s Dazzle. Another issue is the gold income Taric gets from playing mid lane, which many believe should be nerfed.
Riot needs to address the “funnel” strategy problem
Honestly, the funnel strategy is still a huge problem at Diamond rank and above. No one wants to face it because the Master Yi – Taric duo is almost uncounterable, at least in solo queue. It lets many players climb ranks way too easily, which feels unfair. Riot really needs to take action to wipe out this playstyle. Here are some suggestions.
Remove the interaction between Alpha Strike and Dazzle. This is the easiest fix since it only affects the Master Yi and Taric combo. The strategy is so strong because when these two abilities hit, the enemy is stunned and quickly killed. Riot should make it so when Master Yi uses Alpha Strike, it breaks the connection between the two champions.
Limit each team to only one support item. This would prevent Taric from buying support items mid and funneling gold to Master Yi so easily. Another option is to halve the gold gained from support items when more than one player buys them.
The biggest strength of the funnel strategy is how quickly Master Yi becomes powerful early on. Besides farming the jungle, Master Yi gets a huge gold boost from mid lane minions thanks to Taric buying support items. This snowballs the game fast, leaving opponents helpless.
Plus, Taric’s incredible protection lets Master Yi dive towers, kill enemies, and end games quickly. Just a simple combo of Dazzle and Alpha Strike stuns and kills targets easily. In solo queue, where communication is limited, countering this strategy is nearly impossible.
It’s probably time for Riot Games to take stronger measures to nerf the Master Yi – Taric funnel strategy. Otherwise, many players will keep abusing it to climb ranks way too easily in the near future.
