On the evening of May 3, Hanoi’s Department of Health reported a newly confirmed SARS-CoV-2 positive case in the city.
The positive case is Mr. N.T.N, 26 years old, renting a room at No. 18, Alley 86 Phu Kieu, Phu Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem district.
According to the epidemiological investigation, on April 29, Mr. N flew on flight VN160 from Da Nang to Hanoi (this flight had two Chinese passengers seated at 49C and 50B who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2). The flight landed at 12:10 PM on April 29.
Mr. N traveled from Noi Bai airport to his rented room (room 201, No. 18, Alley 86 Phu Kieu) by car driven by Mr. P. Later that day, he stayed home until 9:30 PM, then rode a motorbike with a friend named H (who was on the same VN160 flight and is now in centralized quarantine in Bac Ninh) to eat snails at a street-side stall at 64 Duong Khue, Nam Tu Liem district. Around 11:30 PM, Mr. N returned home.

On April 30, Mr. N stayed home until about 11:30 AM, then went out for lunch with H at Be Thui – O2 restaurant located at 136 Nguyen Phong Sac, Cau Giay district. He sat at a middle table where another group of about six people were dining (no direct contact) along with around three waitstaff (one handing menus, two serving food, none wearing masks).
Around 1:30 PM on April 30, Mr. N accompanied his friend H to Pham Hung street near the bus station, at the turn toward Hoang Quoc Viet, where H took a bus back to Bac Ninh. Mr. N then returned home and stayed there for the rest of the day.
On May 1, Mr. N stayed home until about 8 PM, then rode a motorbike to his father’s house at No. 23, Alley 30 Hong Mai street, Bach Mai ward, Hai Ba Trung district. There, he had contact with his father, younger brother, and two other people. He stayed overnight at his father’s place.
On May 2, around 12:15 PM, Mr. N and his younger brother went to eat pork ribs rice at 416 Bach Mai street, Hai Ba Trung district. Around 1 PM, he returned to his father’s house on Alley 30 Hong Mai. In the evening, besides the four family members, three more relatives (an aunt, uncle, and cousin) joined for dinner. Around 10:30 PM, Mr. N rode his motorbike back to his rented room in Phuc Dien ward, Bac Tu Liem district.
On May 3, Mr. N was tested by Bac Tu Liem District Health Center and transferred to centralized quarantine at the Tu Hiep student housing area in Thanh Tri district.
At 7 PM that day, his test came back positive for SARS-CoV-2 (conducted by Hanoi Center for Disease Control). He is currently being moved to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, facility 2, for isolation and treatment.
