One of the most common tech jokes in online groups is about “downloading” more RAM. Whenever someone complains, “My PC is running so slow,” others usually reply, “Just download more RAM!” Then they share a link to DownloadMoreRAM.com, a website that supposedly lets users download RAM for free over the Internet.

Of course, since it’s just a joke, DownloadMoreRAM.com can’t actually make your PC run smoother. You still have to spend money upgrading your hardware if you want more RAM.

But recently, OPPO introduced a new technology that actually lets users increase their smartphone’s RAM through software. This feature is called “RAM+” and will be available on models like the Reno5, A94, and A74.
So how does RAM+ work? According to OPPO, RAM+ converts part of the phone’s internal storage (ROM) into RAM. “With just one tap inside the Settings app, users can add up to 7GB of RAM.” This feature will be found under the About Device section. Users choose how much RAM they want to add, then restart the phone to apply the change.

“Users will enjoy optimized performance thanks to the expanded RAM capacity, which supports better data processing, reduces frame drops and fragmentation. RAM+ makes switching between background apps smoother and maximizes the phone’s hardware potential. OPPO also offers three different RAM+ levels, giving users flexibility to adjust RAM size based on their needs,” OPPO said in their statement.
RAM+ will roll out to devices like the Reno5, A94, and A74 in upcoming updates. The soon-to-be-released Reno6 is also expected to include this feature.
