The Pokémon Company just revealed that fans in Japan will soon get to fly on a special Pikachu-themed jet, called the Pikachu Jet BC, celebrating the franchise’s 25th anniversary. Fans outside Japan might be a bit bummed since this adorable electric-type plane will only take to the skies there. While only Japanese Pokémon fans can experience this custom Pikachu plane, similar themed aircraft are rolling out elsewhere. If you’re in Singapore, get excited, budget airline Scoot is working on its own Pokémon jet.
According to IGN, the Pikachu Jet BC is a collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Japan’s low-cost airline Skymark. Both the outside and inside of the plane are decked out in Pikachu-themed decorations to mark the anniversary.
The plane’s bright yellow exterior features a cheerful group of Pikachu flying with a bouquet of balloons. Its blue tail sports the Pokémon logo, a big yellow star, and scattered Pokéballs. Inside, the cabin includes Pikachu-themed headrests, special drinks, accessories, and even flight attendants wearing Pikachu scarves. Row 25 is specially designed with Pikachu bubble motifs to celebrate a quarter-century of the franchise.
Pokémon Air Adventures and the Celebration
This plane isn’t just a 25th anniversary tribute. It’s part of Pokémon Air Adventures, a travel campaign highlighting Japan’s tropical Okinawa prefecture. The Pokémon Company describes it as “an initiative starting in Japan to create amazing travel memories.” Across the beautiful islands, fans can also spot Pikachu-themed buses and trains.
But there’s more: starting July 22, Pokémon Go players in Okinawa can catch a limited-edition Pikachu wearing Kariyushi attire, a popular local summer style. It’s the perfect time for trainers to plan a vacation. Believe it or not, this isn’t the first Pokémon jet. From 1998 to 2016, several Pokémon-themed planes have charmed the skies. However, this new Pikachu Jet BC is currently the only one operating commercially.
