For streamers, earning money through donations and ads is pretty normal. Some even use their streams as a business platform. That’s fine, but when it’s done in a tasteless way like Jie Pi did, it’s bound to get backlash.

If you haven’t heard, Jie Pi is a rising streamer who’s gained around 350,000 fans over the past two years. She focuses on beauty tips and health products for women. As her following grew, sponsorship offers started rolling in quickly.

Recently, she took on an ad deal for a home massage device. To boost viewer numbers, Jie Pi decided to strip down on stream while testing the product. She went as far as being “99% nude,” exposing sensitive areas during her July 5 broadcast.

The stream quickly became a hot topic online. But support was scarce while criticism poured in. Many said her actions were way too inappropriate and that no one wanted to buy the product she was pushing. “How can she stream like that? Doesn’t she have any shame?” was a common harsh comment.
The backlash didn’t stop at comments. Lots of viewers called for reporting her channel to get her banned. And just a short time later, her channel was taken down. It’s unclear if this ban is temporary or permanent, but it’s safe to say Jie Pi’s streaming career took a huge hit from this disastrous ad.
