The CFS Funspark Asian Cup was a rare international test before countries head into the biggest Crossfire tournament of the year, CFS 2021. Vietnam sent two teams to compete alongside two from the Philippines and four from China.
After the group stage ran from July 28 to August 2, only four teams advanced to the finals: EDWARD GAMING, LAST LEGENDS, EVOLUTION POWER, and ALL GAMERS.
The finals took place from August 3 to 5 with a double-elimination format. LAST LEGENDS faced an early challenge, dropping to the lower bracket alongside EDWARD GAMING. But with years of top-level experience, LAST LEGENDS stayed calm and fought back through the lower bracket. They defeated EDWARD GAMING and only fell to runner-up ALL GAMERS.
The final results of the CFS Funspark Asian Cup were:
• Champion: EVOLUTION GAMERS (China) with a $12,000 prize
• Runner-up: ALL GAMERS (China) with a $9,000 prize
• Third place: LAST LEGENDS (Vietnam) with a $5,000 prize
Although the CFS Funspark Asian Cup is a mid-year friendly, it gave teams a valuable chance to compete internationally. LAST LEGENDS’ performance shows a strong comeback for both the team and Vietnamese Crossfire on the world stage.
Despite years of inactivity in both domestic and international play, veteran players from LAST LEGENDS and the Vietnamese Crossfire esports community showed no signs of rust. Beating two of China’s four top teams and both Philippine representatives on their return is a seriously impressive result.
