PlayStation 5: Many Gamers Fell Victim to Scams
When PS5 first launched in March 2021, it sparked a huge frenzy among gamers worldwide, including in Vietnam. For Vietnamese gamers, owning this console was especially tough due to severe shortages. Even during the next pre-order phase in Vietnam, PS5 quickly sold out.
Scammers took advantage of fans’ passion to make a quick buck. With global shortages, many fraudsters tricked gamers eager to get a PS5 at a good price, only to steal their money. Reports of such scams came from gamers all over the world.
Besides scammers, some lucky gamers who managed to get two new consoles resold them at sky-high prices. Most were sold for three times or even many times the original price of the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Good news for fans: Totoki Hiroki recently announced in a meeting that the company has secured enough chips to meet PS5 sales targets after months of shortages.
Sony aims to sell 14.8 million PS5 units by the end of fiscal year 2021 (March 31, 2022). So Vietnamese gamers can now confidently buy PS5s without worrying about shortages.
Axie Infinity: Gamers Panic as Developer Changes Rewards
Axie Infinity is the hottest name in gaming and tech in Vietnam. With a market cap over $2.8 billion, it’s the most valuable NFT game ever.
Its high valuation comes from the skyrocketing price of its token AXS, used as in-game currency. During the Axie craze, many Vietnamese gamers invested heavily hoping to quickly recoup their money and make easy profits.
But recently, the developers announced on Twitter that rewards (SLP tokens) for PVE will be reduced, while PVP rewards will increase.
On top of that, SLP’s market performance has many players anxious. The token’s downward trend shows no signs of stopping. If this continues or if Bitcoin suddenly crashes, SLP’s market cap could plummet fast. No matter how much gamers grind, it’ll be hard to cover their initial investment.
This has led to a sudden sell-off by many players. Casual investors with weaker teams who can’t compete in PVP may lose nearly half their income.
Additionally, the game will soon launch Axie: Origin, a “Free-to-Play” version. Players won’t need to invest upfront but can still earn small amounts of SLP. It will be available on App Store, Google Play, and Steam. Instead of spending thousands to build a team, players can just download and start playing.
Clearly, with these shifts, gamers should be cautious and do thorough research before risking their money.
