In action movies, we often see scenes where the main character and their car plunge into a river, then easily break the window to escape. Many think these scenes are fake, but they still spark debate online. To find out if car doors really open easily underwater, a daring YouTuber decided to put himself in the driver’s seat by sinking his own car underwater.
The main figure here is Heopop, a male YouTuber who grabbed attention with a video titled: “Can a car door open when the car is 100% underwater? I tried it.
In the video, he sinks himself and his car into a huge water tank nearly 1.7 meters tall. After unlocking the sunroof and disconnecting the car battery, he plunges in. It doesn’t take long for the car to fill with water through the air vents and AC. When the water level reaches his neck, just 30cm below the roof, he tries to open the door.
In movies, the door opens easily, but in reality, the water pressure is intense even at this depth. Despite his best efforts, Heopop can’t budge the door. He even says it feels like an external force is holding it shut.
For the second test, Heopop waits until the car is completely filled with water before trying to open the door. Surprisingly, this time the door opens very easily. He repeats the test and gets the same result.
Heopop was happy with the experiment but admitted the fear was overwhelming once the water filled the car. In the comments, many praised his boldness and the scale of the project. After all, sinking a car is no small expense.
