On August 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency announced it is investigating a copyright infringement case involving the website www.phimmoi.net. The site illegally exploited, copied, used, and publicly displayed copyrighted films without permission, while also running unauthorized ads on these movies to make huge illegal profits.
After being offline for over a month, the online community recently buzzed with news that phimmoi.net has returned under a new domain, “iphimmoi.net.” The new site looks exactly like the old one, with the same movie categories and the familiar Phimmoi.net branding, making many call it the “king of persistence.”
It’s still unclear if this new site is officially connected to phimmoi.net or just a copycat designed to grab clicks and display ads, but it’s definitely stirring up a lot of chatter online.
As long as there are viewers, the demand will keep the cycle going. Vietnamese internet users should develop a more respectful attitude toward enjoying art, especially films.
