Every October, Western game developers usually roll out Halloween-themed events. Call of Duty: Warzone was no exception, with Activision unveiling a bunch of dark, spooky skins and new game modes in an event called The Haunting.
The highlight of this event was Activision introducing skins inspired by iconic horror movie characters. A standout was the Ghostface skin from the famous Scream series, which got FPS fans really excited.
But the event also exposed a harsh reality: Call of Duty: Warzone is still under heavy attack from hackers and cheaters. Beyond the usual cheats like aimbots and wallhacks, hackers have now taken things to a new level by accessing unreleased content. Specifically, they’ve been using character skins like Frank from Donnie Darko and a mysterious flaming skeleton skin.
Keep in mind, Activision’s official event isn’t set to launch until November 20. Yet these skins have been leaked and used by hackers days in advance. This only adds to the frustration of loyal Call of Duty: Warzone players who are losing faith in Activision’s anti-cheat measures. It’s ironic that such a major AAA developer struggles so much to stop cheating across its games.
With these troubling signs, it looks like the upcoming Call of Duty: Warzone event might end up disappointing players once again.
