In early October 2021, Riot revealed two new Dragon buffs coming to the League of Legends Summoner’s Rift. Just a few days ago in patch 11.23, these new Dragons, the Tech Dragon and the Hextech Dragon, officially arrived for LoL players. The community has been buzzing with excitement over these new Dragon buffs and especially the power they grant.
While the Hextech Dragon has been a bit quieter in impact, the Tech Dragon is causing a huge stir thanks to the strength it gives champions who earn its Soul. This effect gets even crazier if the team also secures the Elder Dragon, massively boosting power to almost uncontrollable levels. Riot explained that killing the Tech Dragon grants skill haste and attack speed, the Soul adds a slowing electric beam that deals damage, and when the Tech Dragon changes the terrain, teleport gates appear all over the map.
Recently, a LoL player named K3vin5Durant posted a clip on Reddit that stunned the international LoL community. The clip features the champion Shaco at level 16 with both the Tech Dragon Soul and the Elder Dragon buff. In the clip, Shaco places his clone and lets it be killed by enemies. However, Shaco’s Jack In The Box traps then explode, dealing massive multi-target damage combined with the electric beams from the Tech Dragon Soul and the Elder Dragon’s damage. Shaco wipes out all four enemy champions, even though they are high level and nearly full health.
The power of Shaco’s Jack In The Box is clearly amplified by the combination of the new Dragon buffs and the familiar Elder Dragon strength. Even when at a disadvantage, as shown in the clip, Shaco can take down four opponents at once with just a single clone placement.
This season, these two new Dragon buffs will appear alongside the four classic Elemental Dragons and the Elder Dragon. While it’s still unclear how the Tech Dragon will interact with other champions besides Shaco, given the insane power shown, Riot definitely needs to carefully review these buffs before they hit the professional competitive scene.
