Of course, the ideal age to play is 16 and up, but many younger players have reached high ranks and even joined professional LoL teams.
Recently, a post from a 54-year-old player caught the attention of the international LoL community. Having middle-aged and older players shows how strong the game’s appeal is. These veteran players, both in experience and age, have a broader perspective on the game. For them, LoL truly means entertainment, experience, and relaxation after the stresses of daily life.
However, this older player announced his “retirement” from LoL. He said he’s too old to keep trying hard. After 10 years of playing, he shared some insights about the current LoL scene that sparked a lot of discussion worldwide.
The first issue he pointed out is how junglers in low ranks tend to be pretty useless. He explained that the jungle role is crucial for a team’s smooth gameplay. But in low ranks, junglers often don’t ping, don’t gank, and play very passively. They also struggle with objective control and sometimes have trouble when teammates don’t watch the mini-map or communicate lane changes.
Another big problem he raised is the overwhelming number of smurfs in LoL today. From low ranks up to Diamond and Platinum, smurfs are everywhere. Players in low ranks have almost no chance against smurfs. The frustrating part is that Riot hasn’t taken any real steps to fix the smurf matchmaking issue.
Many LoL players agreed with his post. Besides junglers, smurfing is a widespread issue in every region. Casual or low-rank players often have their gaming experience ruined by smurfs. Most responses showed respect for this older player’s passion for LoL and suggested he try Teamfight Tactics or ARAM, which are more casual and fun modes.
At the end, the player confirmed he won’t quit completely and will still hop into some ARAM games occasionally. But trying hard in Summoner’s Rift is off the table due to his age and lack of motivation. As for the issues he raised, many players hope Riot will improve matchmaking to stop “Gold rank but Challenger skill” smurf problems.
