A man known as Turkey’s first and only “tough businessman and martial artist” has found a way to make a living that no one could have imagined.
For 11 years, Hasan Riza Gunay has been ready to act as a human punching bag, letting people hit him nonstop without complaint or retaliation! In fact, he’s made a lot of money doing it.
Hasan started this unusual job in 2010 after finding inspiration in the classic Turkish film directed by Kemal Sunal, Sark Bulbulu (Eastern Canary), where the main character willingly lets himself get beaten.

He realized that while some people relieve stress through exercise, meditation, or sleep, others need to vent by yelling or hitting something.
So Hasan decided to become a walking punching bag, letting people go all out on him without fighting back. Of course, they pay a good amount to get this stress relief.
Usually, Gunay wears a mask printed with the face of whoever his client is upset with, encouraging them to shout and take out their anger on him.
He told Turkish news agency Anadolu, “Most of my clients suffer from depression or panic because of their daily work stress.”
Occasionally, some incidents happen, but Hasan reminds himself never to hold grudges. He treats every session like a movie scene where the person hitting him is the star.
His rule is to never insult or respond with harsh words to his clients while getting punched.

Most of his clients are women (about 70%) with strength similar to boys aged 12 to 14, so he’s not too worried about getting hurt.
Each session lasts only 10 to 15 minutes, and Gunay takes on a maximum of four clients per day. If he feels someone doesn’t have a good reason for the service or just wants to hit for fun, he won’t accept them.
Hasan even asks all clients to sign a waiver stating he does this voluntarily, so they can relieve stress without worrying about legal issues if injuries occur.
