This story comes from an anonymous Reddit user. While the full truth hasn’t been confirmed, many on the popular forum believe it’s real, and it’s definitely caught a lot of attention.
According to the Redditor, back in 2010 when he was a young guy, he casually bought 10,000 Bitcoins almost like a bet. After some college roommates convinced him, he spent about 50 British pounds to buy 10,000 Bitcoins (each worth roughly 0.005 pounds at the time). Importantly, he stored his Bitcoin wallet keys on his laptop after transferring them from a USB drive.

Some time passed, he graduated college and started a new chapter in life, completely forgetting about that “small” investment.
By 2014, when Bitcoin started gaining real value and rivaling fiat currencies like the US dollar, he suddenly remembered the Bitcoins he’d bought. Naturally, his first step was to find the wallet keys.
He rushed home to dig out his old broken laptop, only to painfully discover his mom had thrown it away to tidy up the house. Meanwhile, those 10,000 Bitcoins would now be worth around 300 million British pounds (over 9,000 billion Vietnamese dong).

The young man wrote in a now-deleted post: “I literally fainted. I was angry, confused, shocked, in denial, sad, furious, and felt so many emotions.”
He said this terrible misfortune caused him to suffer a mental breakdown and near-daily depression thinking about how he could have been a millionaire. He admitted to getting angry and snapping at his mom, blaming her for tossing out the laptop, which had been part of the family’s junk pile for years.
Despite trying to get his life back on track, he said Bitcoin’s soaring value only made his depression worse.
“I’m still disappointed. I still live with my parents, I work a job I hate, I have friends but we don’t talk much, and my life isn’t what it used to be,” he wrote.
He added that thoughts about the lost fortune still “tear him up inside” and described it as a “long nightmare.”
