Chinese netizens have launched a fierce backlash against Intel, the world’s leading chip manufacturer.
The controversy started when Intel requested its suppliers to stop providing products made in Xinjiang. This decision sparked major outrage among Chinese users. Even though the global hardware giant issued an apology, the anger has not died down.
The Global Times criticized Intel’s statement as unreasonable, pointing out that the company earned significant revenue from the Xinjiang market, about 26% of its total revenue in 2020. They said Intel’s move was like “biting the hand that feeds it.”
In an editorial, the paper added, “What we need to do is make companies pay a higher price whenever they offend China. They will suffer more losses than profits.”
