Greed is often a key factor behind crimes like fraud. But in the case of Takashi Miyagawa, it’s hard to say if it’s just greed. While most scammers go after money or valuables, Takashi’s con was much simpler: birthday gifts and affection.
Recently, the online community was buzzing about Takashi Miyagawa, who was charged with fraud. The 39-year-old part-time worker from Osaka, who has no fixed address, was arrested for deceiving 35 women by pretending to be in serious relationships with each of them. What’s crazier is that Takashi lied about his birthday to every woman, giving each a different date so he could receive birthday presents all year long.
According to police sources, Takashi’s real birthday is November 13. However, he told a 47-year-old woman his birthday was February 22. With other girlfriends, he gave different birthdates in July, April, and so on. All 35 women had unique birthdates for him. The gifts Takashi received weren’t extravagant, the priciest was a suit worth about 30,000 yen (roughly 6 million VND). But when you add up all the presents, it’s a significant amount. That’s why Takashi is now in custody on fraud charges.
Police revealed that every time Takashi met one of his “targets,” he used sales tactics to pitch bathroom products to meet his company’s KPIs. He always acted very serious, promising to take responsibility for the women’s “rest of their lives,” which easily trapped them. Some women were even kissed by Takashi on the second date, despite telling him they only wanted to do that with their future husband. Takashi would just say he planned to be that husband. This shows just how skilled he was at charming women.
When arrested, Takashi said he wouldn’t say anything until he met with his lawyer. Maybe even he didn’t realize he was committing fraud.
