Dropping an iPhone in the toilet and flushing it usually means the phone is done for. Most people wouldn’t expect it to work again after being fished out. Plus, besides the heartbreak over losing an expensive phone, many would worry about clogged pipes or sewage backups. But none of that happened to Becki Beckmann, who’s now gone viral with the story of her lost iPhone.
Back on Halloween 2012, Becki was super upset after losing her phone and couldn’t remember where she left it. She searched everywhere but couldn’t find it, calling the disappearance a mystery on her social media. Eventually, she bought a new phone and moved on. Fast forward 10 years, the mystery was finally solved when Becki and her husband started hearing banging noises after flushing their toilet.
“At first we blamed the old toilet or bad plumbing” Becki said. But when the noise didn’t stop, she and her husband decided to clear the pipes to see what was going on. To their shock, her husband found an iPhone deep in the toilet’s drain pipe. And it was none other than Becki’s long-lost phone from years ago.
Even more surprising, after a decade living in a smelly, filthy place, the iPhone’s basic structure was still intact, though the case had come apart from all the flushing. Sadly, it didn’t work anymore since water resistance wasn’t introduced by Apple until the iPhone 7. Becki’s lost phone was an iPhone 4, so it wasn’t built to survive water damage.
Still, the story sparked plenty of skepticism online, with many questioning how the pipes could have worked fine for 10 years and only now started making noise.
