Recently, gamers around the world got excited over rumors that Blizzard was about to launch a new mobile game expanding the already successful Warcraft 3 universe this May. Early reports suggested this new “blockbuster” mobile title would have gameplay similar to Pokémon GO, where players could explore, catch, and train Warcraft heroes, then battle with them just like Pokémon GO players have done.

But instead of a Pokémon GO-style Warcraft 3 game, Blizzard introduced Warcraft Arclight Rumble. Advertised as a project over 20 years in the making, the game left many players disappointed. The graphics were underwhelming, and the gameplay felt like a copy of Clash Royale, which came out six years ago. Warcraft Arclight Rumble quickly earned the label of Blizzard’s biggest flop.

There were some positive notes, like a focus on PvE over PvP, similar to Blizzard’s other titles like World of Warcraft, and promises of no pay-to-win lootboxes. Still, the negative reactions from the gaming community dominated. Almost everyone expressed disappointment over this flop.

The backlash grew even stronger after reports surfaced that the Pokémon GO-style Warcraft 3 project was canceled to make way for Warcraft Arclight Rumble, which is predicted to struggle to generate steady revenue. Although these claims remain unconfirmed, they have only fueled gamers’ frustration.
