SEA Games 31 marked the first time Free Fire was included as an official esports event at the Southeast Asian Games. After an intense qualifying round featuring 24 of Vietnam’s top Free Fire teams, two representatives were chosen to compete at SEA Games 31: King Man and Team Flash.
Although King Man’s roster isn’t yet widely known in the community, they delivered an impressive performance during qualifiers by consistently scoring points through kills and high placements. Many are hoping this team will pull off something special against international squads at SEA Games 31.
Preparing to compete in one of the first esports events at SEA Games, the team gathered in Hanoi on May 9 to settle in and begin training. In an interview, team captain TheMen (Nguyen Van Thang) shared:
“Our members are between 19 and 22 years old. Usually, we’re all in different places during the day, each busy with our own things, and only train together in the evenings. Now that we’re in Hanoi, we have more time to train, discuss, and try out different strategies to find the best approach for each match.
Besides intense practice sessions, we also take time to hang out and relax by chatting or going for walks together.”
With the opening match approaching, TheMen admitted that while excitement is high, there’s also some nervousness since this is their first major tournament. He’s especially focused on facing FORESIGHT, a well-known international Free Fire team.
As one of Vietnam’s two medal contenders, the players are motivated by their families’ support and encouragement to give their all, aiming to bring home gold and national pride.
“So far, we’ve prepared about 90%, and the rest depends on how we handle the pressure during the actual matches,” TheMen revealed.
He also hopes for strong support from the Vietnamese esports fans to help the team deliver their best performance in the upcoming battles.
