In 2009, Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt made sports history by setting the 100-meter world record at 9.58 seconds. Belgian scientists found that Bolt’s top speed during the race hit 27.33 mph (43.99 km/h) at around 67.13 meters. They noted that this speed is faster than average traffic speeds in major US cities like Boston, New York, and San Francisco.
Interestingly, the same study suggested that Bolt’s physique wasn’t ideal for the 100-meter sprint, let alone breaking records that stunned the world. Biologically, sprinters usually have fast-twitch muscle fibers that help them accelerate quickly in a short time. The best sprinters tend to be compact, neither too tall nor too skinny.

Yet Bolt proved all those theories wrong, using pure talent to shatter expectations. Even with intense, serious training, there’s no guarantee anyone can reach his level while he was still competing.
So what if we bring technology and machines into the mix?
Recently, YouTuber Jake Laser, who runs the JLaservideo channel with over 3 million subscribers, decided to build special gear and shoes to try and break Usain Bolt’s record. Jake is clear that no ordinary person can beat Bolt by just running, since an untrained body and legs can’t handle that insane speed and risk serious injury.
That’s why Jake combined running with gliding. When his speed hits his limit, he switches to sliding on his specially designed shoe soles. Basically, Jake attached 12 mini jet engines to his arms and coated his shoe soles with Teflon to reduce friction as much as possible.

Instead of running with a traditional sprinting form, Jake mimics the ninja running style from Naruto, with his arms stretched behind to reduce air resistance and propel himself forward. The jet engines boost his speed, while the Teflon soles nearly eliminate friction during movement.
