HHT – Instagram is offering new options for teens to limit the amount of sensitive content they see on the social network. Back in June, the platform added a setting to further restrict this kind of content. This option will soon be turned on by default for Instagram users in their teens.
According to Meta’s latest announcement, Instagram’s Sensitive Content Control tool will now default to the “Less” setting for users under 16. Currently, teen-created Instagram accounts have the “Standard” setting enabled, which still allows some sensitive content to appear.
Instagram says this change will make it harder for young people to come across “potentially sensitive content” on the platform. The new setting will affect Search, Explore, Stories, Feed Recommendations, and Suggested Accounts…
But that’s not all Instagram announced to protect its teen users. The platform will also remind teens to review their account settings, including controls over who can reshare their content, who can message them, and how much time they spend on Instagram. The popular messaging app is also limiting how teens can send and receive messages from unknown people.
Instagram previously resisted changing its recommendation algorithm to compete with TikTok, which raised concerns among users, especially parents, about what their kids might see online. These new policy updates aim to better protect users, especially teens, from sensitive content and give parents more peace of mind while their children use Instagram.
