Many Facebook users like to share basic personal info like their address, religion, identity, job, and more. But it looks like some of these details are about to disappear from the platform.
With more competitors emerging and social media evolving, Facebook isn’t as popular as it used to be. In fact, many teens don’t use it regularly anymore, preferring more personal platforms like Snapchat or video apps like TikTok.
This latest move seems to be part of Facebook’s effort to simplify the platform and reduce the amount of personal info shared for privacy reasons.
Speaking to TechCrunch, a Facebook spokesperson said this change is an effort to “make Facebook simpler and easier to use.” It’s unclear if this means a redesign of profile pages or just removing fields that many users don’t care about.
Meta has started notifying users who have filled out these details that they won’t be able to share this personal info soon. Starting December 1, Meta plans to remove fields like address, religion, political views, and sexual orientation from Facebook. Other profile info will stay for now until further updates are announced.
