What’s really concerning is that TikTok users in Vietnam cover all age groups, from kids to teens, who are especially vulnerable to the harmful content flooding the app. The local TikTok team hasn’t taken strong enough steps to moderate or control this content.
Uploading videos on TikTok is incredibly easy, no matter the type of content. This directly impacts viewers, especially young people. Not long ago, netizens were shocked by extremely harmful and explicit videos, both in visuals and language, filled with vulgar words that go against social morals.
These are common trends on TikTok, but some TikTokers take it further by using the platform to make money through outrageous actions, even openly showing off their bodies to sell products. It’s not hard to find 18+ clips or sensitive stories aimed at selling items like unregulated sexual enhancement supplements.
In 2021, TikTok reached nearly 3.7 billion downloads and generated $5.4 billion in consumer spending, not counting its Chinese counterpart Douyin on Android.
TikTok has brought plenty of positive content and useful information to users. But alongside that, there’s a huge amount of dirty, even toxic and explicit content that poses serious risks to the mindset and taste of young viewers. That’s the real issue that needs urgent attention.
