It’s also hard to tell how many parents create TikTok accounts for their kids under 18. Most of us tend to overlook protecting children from harmful content on social media. Unfortunately, such content is everywhere on TikTok.
In recent years, TikTok has become the most downloaded app worldwide, not just in Vietnam. With more downloads come millions of daily users. Because of this massive volume, TikTok can’t fully control every video uploaded on its platform.
Just like YouTube a few years ago, where users could even watch 18+ content before Google tightened its rules, TikTok hasn’t caught up yet. Harmful, explicit, and degrading content still floods the app.
Not long ago, creepy transformation trends filled with explicit language and 18+ themes went viral on TikTok. These even became trending challenges that many young users copied. Harmful content openly spread on TikTok as if it were normal.
How many kids have accidentally seen these clips while using their parents’ TikTok accounts? We can’t know because the platform’s algorithm recommends content in unpredictable ways. Out of curiosity, kids get exposed to this content, which can negatively affect their mental and emotional development, even distorting their personality growth. TikTok is far more dangerous than we realize because it lacks proper rules and protections against harmful content.
