After two failed relationships, Thanh Vinh, 28, from Hue and a factory manager, decided to join a dating show hoping to find the right partner. He described his ideal girlfriend as fair-skinned, long-haired, petite, and someone who cares for her family. He said he’s hardworking and diligent but picky with food and shy around strangers.
Introduced as a match for him was Ha Giang, an HR staff member. She’s cheerful, friendly, and enthusiastic but not great at cooking. Ha Giang hoped her boyfriend would be mature, good-looking, honest, not controlling, a non-smoker, and non-violent. “I like guys around 1.7 meters tall, not too fat or too skinny, with a bright face,” she shared.
Their initial conversation went smoothly, earning warm reactions and fans rooting for the couple. Everything seemed perfect until the guy brought up a sensitive topic: he wanted her to try for a son. He explained:
“I want a son so you don’t feel pressured. In our family, there has to be a boy and a girl. If we have a daughter first, neighbors will talk, so we have to have a son,” he said frankly. When asked what if they can’t have a son, he replied, “Try for a third child, if not, then stop at three.”
Many viewers thought he was rushing things, lacking tact, and had outdated thinking, though some appreciated his honesty. Meanwhile, the girl blushed and seemed uncomfortable with the topic so soon. She disagreed and responded bluntly:
“Whether it’s a boy or a girl, they’re both our children, and we have to take responsibility. I want my boyfriend to be understanding and supportive, especially honest and caring for the family. I think two kids are enough.”
