Once a famous K-pop idol, Somyi suddenly switched to streaming in 2021. She targeted single guys by focusing on sensitive content, often wearing revealing outfits to grab online attention.
Back then, she sparked plenty of controversy and criticism. Before fully committing to streaming, she tried part-time modeling at a mall, beauty modeling, and working at a café, but the income wasn’t enough to cover living expenses.
After her first year streaming, Somyi opened up about facing harsh criticism and hateful comments because she used to be an idol. She revealed struggles not only with tight finances but also mental health issues. The streamer shared she suffers from anxiety and panic disorder, often unable to sleep without medication, sometimes sleeping 12 to 16 hours only after taking pills. Still, she refused to take breaks:
“If I stop streaming, I won’t have any income. It’s a trap I can’t escape. I always feel that if I fall, my whole family will fall with me.”
Recently, possibly due to her mental state, Somyi made a shocking move. She accused a CEO of inappropriate and boundary-crossing behavior in his office. However, security footage showed the man did nothing like she claimed. Instead, the evidence revealed Somyi was the one who embraced the CEO. Because of these details, she was sentenced to 18 months in prison for defamation.
