Twitch, the popular livestreaming platform owned by Amazon, just announced major updates to its policies and moderation tools. The company emphasized its goal to combat and reduce harassment on the platform.
One key upgrade is to the AutoMod moderation tool. Users can now filter out unwanted comments related to appearance, solicitations, or harassment. This new filter works alongside existing ones that target aggression and bullying. Currently, this feature supports English only but will soon expand to other languages.
Twitch stated, “We ban unwanted comments, including emoji related to someone’s appearance or body, as well as solicitations and harassment.” The platform also stressed that sharing or recording private images or videos without consent will be reported to law enforcement.
While Twitch’s anti-harassment policy hasn’t changed drastically, the definitions are now clearer. Any behavior that makes users feel demeaned, uncomfortable, or unsafe on the platform is something Twitch is actively working to reduce.
These updates come after a well-known male streamer was banned for sending inappropriate messages to fans. Additionally, a survey showed female streamers face more harassment online than their male counterparts, pushing Twitch to improve protections. The platform aims to create a safer, more positive, and friendlier online experience for all users.
